Rigorous market survey says 'women like Beetles'...

According to a new report undertaken by the rigorous scientists over at Truecar.com, women are more likely to purchase a Volkswagen Beetle than any other car. Whereas men, surprise surprise, prefer to go for something more masculine like trucks, vans or sports cars.

According to statistics only 36% of new car buyers are women and when you cross-reference this with Beetle sales, women make up a staggering 56% of new Beetle owners. The Beetle has a certain chic metropolitan style to it and it’s easy to see why a lot of people would go for it. The Beetle is relatively cheap to maintain, it’s reliable, economical and practical, especially for those living in big cities.

As you might expect men tended towards bigger, higher powered vehicles like the Bugatti. Another favourite amongst men, especially businessmen, was the Audi TT with its sleek lines and almost bond-esque status.

Of course the new car market only counts for a fraction of the real car market. Most of us just make do with a battered old rover, or occasionally skim through the Autotrader looking for a reasonably priced used van because we can’t afford anything as flashy as a new Audi.

If I suddenly became an internet millionaire overnight it would be tempting to go out and buy a garage full of cars, a few Ferraris here, maybe an Aston Martin over there, but in all honesty I think I’d rather stick with something with a bit more class like a Mini or a Delorean....

Cat weightlifting...

There's something strangely compelling about listening to two very excited Japanese sports commentators getting really animated about the prospect of cats lifting and carrying off fish at increasingly heavier levels.
